Content Policy

1. Who this applies to

This Content Policy governs everything you submit to Slipcased — collection photographs, identification covers, notes, lists, display names, bios, and anything else you post or make public. Today the shared catalog is curated by Slipcased, and most of what you create is private to your account; this policy still applies to it, and it is the standard we will hold community contributions to as those features open up.

2. What is never allowed

Some content is prohibited outright. Do not post, upload, or share content that:

  • Sexualizes minors, in any form. Content that depicts, describes, or sexualizes any person who is or appears to be a minor is strictly forbidden. This is a zero-tolerance rule: we remove it, terminate the account, and report it to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) and law enforcement as required by law.
  • Harasses, threatens, or attacks people. No harassment, bullying, stalking, threats of violence, or hateful content that attacks people based on race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability, or similar protected characteristics.
  • Impersonates someone. Do not pretend to be another person, author, publisher, box, or Slipcased itself, or use a handle, display name, or bio designed to deceive people about who you are or who you speak for.
  • Is explicit sexual material. Pornographic or sexually explicit imagery has no place in the catalog or on public profiles. Romance and romantasy cover art that is suggestive but not explicit is allowed and handled under Section 3.
  • Is spam or advertising. No unsolicited promotion, bulk or repetitive posting, affiliate-link farming, scams, or off-topic commercial content. Slipcased is a collection tracker, not a billboard.
  • Infringes someone's rights. Do not upload cover art, photographs, or text you do not have the right to share. The fact that an image is available online does not make it yours to post. See Section 5 and the rights warranty in the Terms (§6).
  • Is illegal, or promotes illegal activity or self-harm.
  • Discloses private information. Do not post other people's private or identifying information without their consent.

3. Mature cover art and the sensitive flag

Special-edition books — romance and romantasy especially — often carry cover art that is suggestive but not explicit: bare skin, sensual poses, tasteful nudity in an artistic context. That art is part of collecting, and it is allowed on Slipcased. What we ask is that it be labeled so every reader can decide what they want to see.

  • The sensitive flag. Mature cover art is marked sensitive. Sensitive covers are blurred by default and reveal only when a viewer chooses to show them.
  • The public catalog is curated to non-explicit. Imagery we publish to the shared, world-readable catalog is kept within a non-explicit bound; the sensitive flag governs how a mature-but-allowed cover is displayed, and explicit material is removed under Section 2.
  • Your public surfaces respect it too. When you make a list or profile public, sensitive covers stay blurred (or excluded, if you prefer) so that sharing your shelf never forces mature art on anyone.

If you think a cover is mislabeled — mature art that isn't flagged, or something flagged that shouldn't be — tell us (Section 6) and we'll fix it.

4. How we moderate

We may remove any content, and suspend or terminate any account, at any time and at our discretion — with or without notice — when we believe it violates this policy, the Terms, or the law, or to protect the Service or the people who use it. We are not obligated to review or monitor content, and choosing not to act in one case does not waive our right to act in another. We try to be fair and proportionate, and to leave the calm, low-drama tone the app is built around intact.

Cover art is frequently copyrighted by publishers, artists, or authors. Only upload images you have the right to share. If you believe your copyrighted work appears on Slipcased without authorization, use the DMCA notice-and- takedown process in the Terms (§8).

We terminate the accounts of repeat infringers in appropriate circumstances (17 U.S.C. § 512(i)). Repeatedly posting infringing material — even after a takedown — will cost you your account.

6. How to report a problem

There are two ways to flag content that breaks this policy:

  • Use the in-app report / feedback control where you see the content, so it reaches us with context about what and where.
  • Email us. For general concerns, harassment, or mislabeled covers, write support@slipcased.com. For copyright / DMCA takedown notices, write dmca@slipcased.com (see Terms §8 for what a valid notice must include).

If someone may be in danger, or you encounter content that sexualizes a minor, contact local law enforcement in addition to reporting it to us — and we will report it to NCMEC and authorities as the law requires.

7. Changes

We may update this Content Policy as the product and community grow. Material changes update the "Last updated" date above; continuing to use Slipcased after a change means you accept the updated policy.
